About WSEG ...

For around twenty years Wirral Scouts Expedition Group has been running expedition weekends to help members of the Scout Association to complete expeditions for The Duke of Edinburgh's Award and for Scout Training programmes.

The Group is self financing and all participants are asked to contribute towards the costs of the weekends. The participants pay towards the cost of the running of the weekend Participants are expected to pay for their own food, equipment, camping fees and transport to and from the expedition area

We have, on average, around thirty five participants out on any given weekend. This, we feel, is the right number for safety. There are usually eight to ten staff out on each weekend which gives us a good participant to leader ratio without taking away any of the independence that is part of any expedition. Four of our leaders are MLTB trained and the majority of leaders are first aid trained.

Expedition weekends take place twice a year at the Easter and August Bank Holidays in the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales.

Our Expedition places are open to all members of Merseyside Scouts aged 15 - 25 who wish to complete their Silver or Gold D of E Award as part of their Diamond Chief Scout's Award or Queen's Scout award. Training sessions take place at Birkenhead District Scout Headquarters. By prior arrangement, participants who cannot attend sessions at Birkenhead District Scout HQ can be accommodated. Training and advice can be given but participants must comply with the requirements listed.

Places on the expeditions are limited and must be booked in advance, see our diary page for details.
